Great Lakes Chamber Orchestra Announces "Beethoven and Bay View"

Maestro Matthew Hazelwood will lead the Great Lakes Chamber Orchestra in a performance of Beethoven's Fourth Piano Concerto, Opus 58 with Lori Sims, pianist, on June 14th, 8:00 p.m. in the John Hall Auditorium at Bay View. In collaboration with the Bay View Music Festival, Chris Ludwa, Music Director of the Festival, will join Maestro Hazelwood on the podium, conducting Mozart's Symphony # 31 in D Major, K 297.
Soloist Lori Sims, a Bay View Music Festival artist, received the First Prize Gold Medal at the 1998 Gina Bachauer International Piano Competition. Other prizes include first place co-winner of the 1994 Felix Bartholdy-Mendelssohn Competition in Berlin, winner of the 1993 American Pianists' Association Competition with outstanding distinction from the jury. She has performed throughout America, Europe and China, including the Israel Philharmonic, the Utah Symphony, the Indianapolis Symphony, the Spokane Chamber Orchestra, the Kalamazoo Symphony and the NordDeutsche-Rundfunks (NDR) Orchestra.
Sims is the John T. Bernhard Professor of Music at Western Michigan University, where she teaches piano and lectures in accompanying and keyboard literature. Prior to her appointment at Western, she was a visiting assistant professor at the University of Illinois. During the summer, she also is an artist-teacher at the Eastern Music Festival in North Carolina and the Internationale Konzertarbeitswochen in Goslar, Germany.
